Celtic fan and actor Martin Compston wasted no time celebrating his team’s dramatic League Cup final victory over Rangers on Sunday. The Line of Duty star, known for playing detective Steve Arnott in the hit BBC series, shared his joy with fans while taking a playful swipe at Celtic’s Glasgow rivals.
After the Bhoys secured the trophy in a thrilling 3-3 draw that ended with a penalty shootout win, Compston took to Instagram to share photos from the post-match celebrations.
One snap featured him alongside Celtic captain Callum McGregor, which he captioned: “The hope that kills them. Scotland’s greatest team.”

The comment referenced Celtic’s status as Scotland’s most successful club, now boasting 119 major honours—edging ahead of Rangers, who sit on 118.
Celebrating with the Celtic Players
Compston, who hails from Greenock and is a lifelong Hoops fan, also posted a photo with defender Greg Taylor, posing with Taylor’s winners’ medal. The actor was clearly enjoying the moment, as Celtic fans basked in their side’s latest triumph.
The 40-year-old, who currently lives in Las Vegas, is known for making the trip back to Scotland for key matches, and Sunday’s clash at Hampden Park was no exception.

Compston’s “hope that kills them” remark wasn’t lost on fans, many of whom joined in on the banter. It’s a phrase Celtic fans have leaned on in recent years as their dominance over Rangers continues.
With Daizen Maeda sealing the victory and captain McGregor lifting the trophy, it was another day of glory for Celtic—and another chance for Compston to revel in his club’s success at the expense of our
