Liam Scales and Adam Idah have been named in the Ireland squad for two upcoming international friendlies next month. Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrímsson confirmed his 23-man selection on Thursday, with the Celtic duo among those called up for the June matches.
Ireland will kick off their summer schedule with a home match against Senegal at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Friday, June 6. They will then travel to Luxembourg for a second friendly on Tuesday, June 10. These games form part of Hallgrímsson’s preparations ahead of the World Cup qualifying campaign, which is set to begin in September.

Both players have become regulars for their country in recent times. Between them, Scales and Idah have made 39 appearances for Ireland at senior level.

Idah has enjoyed a respectable season and continues to play an important role for the national team. He grabbed a crucial late goal in Ireland’s UEFA Nations League B play-off win over Bulgaria during the last international break.

The centre-back will be looking to build on his international experience and push for a regular starting place alongside Idah.
Both men will be aiming to use these friendlies to cement their positions ahead of the more competitive fixtures later in the year. Their call-ups underline the positive impact they’ve had at club level this season and the trust Hallgrímsson has placed in them moving forward.
