CELTIC had a good window under the circumstances and overseen a huge turnover of players. But the job isn’t done yet, we’ve still got players collecting a wage at the club who look like they’ll never play for Celtic again.
Boli Bolingoli and Vasilis Barkas appear to be two players who fit that description.
Barkas played one competitive game for Celtic before being dropped by Ange Postecoglou. He cuts a lonely figure on matchday, mustering up some sort of energy to go through pre-match drills even though sometimes he’s not even on the bench.
It would have been smarter for both Celtic and Barkas to seek a loan move before the window closed – as we understand it – Barkas had no intention of heading back to Greece where there was some interest.
Bolingoli has done nothing under Ange Postecoglou and is continually overlooked. The defender came back to the club and could have been given a second chance – for whatever reason – Ange sees value in Adam Montogomery taking a place on the bench. It’s hard to disagree with the manager for giving his young player a chance over someone who would leave Celtic at the drop of a hat.
There was not interest in Bolingoli in the summer and the club are paying him a wage for doing absolutely nothing. We must look at January as a jumping-off point for getting rid of dead weight.
