It was last Wednesday when Celtic took in Bristol City in their final pre-season game down south before heading back to Glasgow.
The game ended in a stalemate but it looks to have cost Celtic ahead of their Champions League qualifier on Tuesday evening.
Mikey Johnston and Karamoko Dembele both limped off during the game. Mikey seemed to pull up while Karamoko was harshly taken down in a challenge which has no place in a friendly.
We had been waiting on an update since then from the manager on both players prognosis. We finally got an answer and it’s bad news on both counts.
Speaking to RecordSport, Ange Postecoglou confirmed both are out for a significant period of time.
“We’ve had some early diagnosis, but they have both had fairly significant injuries and will be out for a period of time.
“They are the kind of players I love having in the team.
“We don’t want to put a time frame on it but it won’t be less than a month. How much longer? We are waiting for advice.
“It’s disappointing for both of them.
“I was looking forward to working with them as they are exciting wingers, the kind of players I love having in the team.
“Unfortunately, that game at Bristol has really cost us, through no one’s fault. One was a bad tackle, and the other an innocuous event.
“It’s a blow and they have some fairly significant rehab ahead of them.
“They have youth and time on their side so hopefully they will work hard and get back.”
Mikey was our only first team left winger after Moi Elyounoussi left this summer to return to his parent club. James Forrest had to isolate and missed Celtic’s pre-season training camp so Karamoko could have started against Midtjylland.
It’s going to be very interesting to see how Celtic set up. We are struggling for numbers in key positions. It could be a long night but the younger players could surprise us.
The game kicks off at 19:45 and 9000 Celtic fans will be heading through the door to support the bhoys.
