CELTIC have been very quiet about promoting their season tickets until they got clarity on what’s going on with the game in this country.
With an August restart date to aim for and a virtual season ticket in place, they have now put out another rallying cry to supporters to renew before the end of June.
Celtic season tickets for this season, in particular, sell themselves and that’s why I believe today the club doubled down on the price punters will pay for their tickets, even if a majority of the season is played behind closed doors.
You will pay the same price for a season book as you would have if you watched every single game from Celtic Park. It seems a little cheeky of the club to do this but we understand the logistics and the amount of money lost if they were to cut prices. Is it fair? not really. Are they playing on our emotional attachment to the club? Absolutely.
Of course, they’ve announced an upgrade to the current CelticTV format to make the season ticket price a bit more palatable but this upgraded service will be available to current overseas subscribers for a fraction of the price. I wouldn’t hold that against our long suffering global Celtic supporters, who’ve had to put up with a below-par service for so long.
I write this as someone who renewed their season ticket before all this happened but if I hadn’t I’d still probably have forked over the cash in the hope that my large outlay will result in me getting into the ground to at least watch us clinch ten in a row if the bhoys can do it on the park. There will be fans, however, who can’t afford to pay for their tickets due to current financial circumstances and I feel for them the most.
Motherwell announced that their loyal supporters who did renew their season tickets would get their 19 domestic games at some point – so for example, if Motherwell played 9 home games behind closed doors then supporters were allowed in, the club would owe the supporters 9 domestic games that could fall into a price reduction next season.
No such word of this from Celtic and I’d be surprised if there will be.
They’ll even be some people who get annoyed that I’m bringing this up in the first place. Why am I bringing it up? In the faint hope Celtic reward their loyal supporters in the long run.
