Celtic Defender Returns to Training Amid Transfer Speculation

Gustaf Lagerbielke was spotted back at Lennoxtown on Friday as Celtic’s pre-season preparations continue. The Swedish centre-half has returned from a loan spell at FC Twente, where he featured regularly.

The 25-year-old’s long-term future remains unclear. Despite being back in Glasgow, he’s widely expected to be on the move again during the current transfer window.

However, there is still a possibility he could work his way into Brendan Rodgers’ thinking if he impresses over the coming weeks. While Celtic are aiming to bolster the squad in multiple areas, the door hasn’t been completely closed on returning loanees, particularly those who’ve gained valuable experience abroad.

Lagerbielke’s time in the Eredivisie and the Europa League has not gone unnoticed. According to Fabrizio Romano, Portuguese side Braga have tabled an offer for the defender.

Signed for £3 million in 2023 as part of a defensive rebuild, Lagerbielke arrived alongside Maik Nawrocki but struggled to make an impact under Rodgers.

He played only ten times in the Hoops and scored once, a memorable late winner against Feyenoord in the Champions League group stages.

With Celtic pressing ahead to improve the squad ahead of the new campaign, the coming weeks will determine whether Lagerbielke has a future in Glasgow or moves on for a fresh start elsewhere.
