Melbourne City have strengthened their defence with the signing of 20-year-old centre-back Liam Bonetig, who joins the club from Celtic on a three-year deal.
Bonetig has penned a contract that keeps him at the reigning A-League champions until the end of the 2027-28 season. The move brings the young defender back to Australian football after spending time developing in Scotland with Celtic’s B team.
While in Glasgow, Bonetig featured prominently at reserve level and gained experience in the UEFA Youth League, showcasing his ability against some of Europe’s most talented young players.
Originally a product of the Western Sydney Wanderers academy, Bonetig made the move abroad to further his development but now returns with more polish and maturity to his game.
