Celtic Contract Talks at Advanced Stage with Goalkeeper

Celtic are set to tie down promising goalkeeper Marcus Gill on a new long-term contract, with talks between the player and club now at an advanced stage, according to Record Sport.

The 18-year-old, who joined Celtic’s academy as a youngster, is seen as one for the future within the club’s goalkeeping department and someone who can challenge for a first-team spot. Gill gained valuable senior experience at the tail end of last season with Inverness Caledonian Thistle, joining the Highland side on an emergency loan a few times.

Celtic are currently in talks with Inverness over a formal cooperation agreement, a move that would allow several of the club’s top prospects to move between Parkhead and the Caley Jags during the campaign. However, Gill would not be eligible to be part of such an agreement due to the stipulation that only players who represent Scottish national youth teams can be included. The teenager has declared for Ireland at international level, meaning he sits outside the criteria.

Nonetheless, the Hoops remain committed to Gill’s progression and view him as a long-term prospect.

Celtic’s Kasper Schmichiel has entered the last year of his deal, with Vini Sinisalo pushing him for minutes. Ross Doohan is also on Celtic’s books.
