The 17-year-old defender becomes the latest addition to Stephen McManus’ Celtic B squad and was at Lennoxtown on Wednesday as he finalised the move. English has been tracked closely by the Hoops’ scouting department, and the club moved quickly to secure his signature ahead of the new season.

A fee of around £50,000 has been agreed with Morton for the youngster, who was considered one of the brightest prospects at Cappielow. English had attracted interest from several clubs across the UK but opted for a move to Celtic, where he’ll continue his development within the club’s structured academy and B team setup.

The left-footed defender is expected to link up with McManus’ group ahead of pre-season, with the young Hoops aiming to build on a promising campaign in the Lowland League.

While the focus has been on first-team targets such as Benjamin Nygren and Michel Ange Balikwisha, the club are also ensuring long-term reinforcements are in place.

With regular minutes in the Lowland League and development opportunities within the club’s UEFA Youth League squad, the teenager has been handed a big platform to impress in the months ahead.
