Celtic will begin their pre-season schedule with a friendly against Queen’s Park on Friday, July 4, with kick-off set for 7.45pm at The City Stadium.

Brendan Rodgers’ side will return to familiar ground, having defeated the Championship outfit 6-4 in an entertaining contest last summer. But this year’s fixture carries added significance, with Celtic and Queen’s Park in discussions over a new co-operation agreement that could reshape how young players develop at the club.

The proposed partnership comes ahead of the Scottish FA introducing a revised loan structure this summer. Under the new rules, Premiership and Championship clubs can strike formal agreements with sides in League One, League Two, the Highland League or Lowland League, allowing for greater flexibility with loan players.
A key feature of the updated system is the creation of a ‘co-operation list’. This allows a maximum of three players eligible for Scotland’s national team to move freely between the two clubs throughout the season, without the usual restrictions of the transfer windows. The parent club retains responsibility for wages and can recall or replace players at any point.
Celtic are actively exploring this route and are in talks with Queen’s Park to become one of their co-operation partners.
With the new system set to take effect when the transfer window opens on June 16, Celtic are positioning themselves to make the most of the opportunity, potentially giving some of their top youth prospects regular senior football without losing daily oversight.
