Celtic Champions By End of the Week – BBC Journalist Readies Nine in a Row

BBC Scottish sports journalist Chris McLaughlin has claimed Celtic are set to be crowned champions, even by the end of this week.

Speaking on the BBC’s Scottish Football Podcast, the journo told people to expect Celtic to be champions by this time next week.

“I was told before the meeting there was a very good chance that if it went (The EGM) in the SPFL’s favour it would be called by the end of the week. I spoke to a few others yesterday who suggested that in the wake of the vote they may well draw breath.

“What has to happen is that the SPFL board have to convene and agree officially that the 2019/20 season is over. There doesn’t now have to be a vote between all 12 clubs.

“At the last all 12 club meeting, there was I am told a unanimous decision, or certainly a unanimous feeling, that the season could definitely not be played out.

“I would imagine that by this time next week Celtic will be champions.”

This means Celtic could be hours away from their ninth title in a row. A somewhat bittersweet moment given the way things have panned out but deserving nonetheless. The bhoys turned it up when they were under so much pressure after the December defeat to The Rangers at Celtic Park.

They were relentless in their pursuit of number nine and wasted no time going thirteen points clear of our nearest rivals. Few could deny Celtic are worthy winners.

We await the confirmation but keep an eye out, it could come at any moment. Friday would be an interesting jumping off point.

We want to advise all supporters to be sensible when we are crowned champions and celebrate in your homes with your families. Get the zoom chat’s flowing and have a drink to toast the nine.
