Celtic Career Already Over For Hammond Signing?

We’ve used three goalkeepers this season and we’re not even halfway through the campaign. That tells you everything you need to know about the current state of play when it comes Celtic’s final line of defence.

Vasilis Barkas was brought in this summer with high hopes he could hit the ground running but our overriding image of the player is him standing in place while he’s beaten by a number of attacking players.

Right now, it looks like the scouting team have got this one terribly wrong.

If Celtic are to correct course, they almost certainly must push for a new goalkeeper in January. No disrespect to Conor Hazard or Scott Bain but right now our options in goals are a number two or number three – it’s not ideal.

We need a goalkeeper who can win us points, turn a loss into a draw and a draw into a win. Fraser Forster would be a natural choice but I don’t know how viable that is at this point.

Celtic are hopefully doing more homework to see what they can come up with.

If they do bring in a goalkeeper in January, it would likely spell the end for Barkas just six months into his Celtic career. An expensive mistake to say the least.
