Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has opened up on the future of Hoops duo Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie.
The two players have entered the final 12 months of their contract at Parkhead, which has led to much speculation around their future.
Speaking to Celtic TV, Postecoglou gave the latest on their current futures, as he insisted they have both shown great commitment despite the speculation during his time so far at the club.
“I said from the outset; I’m not going to try and coerce or influence players to stay if they don’t want to stay. What I will do is treat everyone as if they are a part of this football club as long as they are. And provided they show the commitment to what we want to do.
“I think Ryan and Odsonne have been outstanding in that [regard]. You can’t tell me that they look like players who don’t want to be here. Irrespective of what their immediate future holds is that they’re contributing every day. Not just in games, in training.“If that continues, I’d be delighted to keep them for as long as they want to stay here. But the same time, they’re all masters of their own future, their own sort of destinies; I think it’s important that they make these decisions that are good for themselves.”
Throughout the summer, Ange has been very open and honest on his thoughts of players futures at the club.
Many fans would probably have expected that both Edouard and Christie would already have left the club.
However, since the beginning of the season, we saw an upturn in form within several players, especially Ryan Christie, when comparing his form last campaign.
Keeping our better players is always something that we, as fans, want to see. At the same time, though, we are realistic enough to expect the possibility of these types of players leaving the club.
It remains to be seen what the last week of the window holds, but it would be good to have both still at the Hoops come the end of this month regarding the quality and squad depth we would possess.
