As Celtic prepare to lift the Premiership trophy once again at a packed Celtic Park, manager Brendan Rodgers has urged fans to celebrate safely amid expectations of mass gatherings in Glasgow’s Trongate area despite calls from Glasgow City Council to avoid the location.

Bus shelters have been removed and some city centre buildings boarded up in anticipation of crowds flocking to Trongate for a now-annual tradition of title celebrations. While there has been a public plea for fans to refrain from gathering there, all signs point to thousands descending on the area regardless.
Rodgers, speaking ahead of Saturday’s trophy day clash with St Mirren, offered his message to the Celtic support:
“Come to Celtic Park tomorrow, have an amazing day. We’ll try and finish off the league campaign in a really good way. Enjoy it — absolutely. That’s why supporters work hard all year, to pay for their season tickets, come and watch their team, and then celebrate. As always, celebrate safely. I’m sure the Celtic supporters will do that.” [Celtic TV]
The Hoops boss has repeatedly spoken of his admiration for the club’s fanbase since returning to Glasgow last summer, and Saturday will be another reminder of the passion and colour Celtic fans bring to their celebrations.
With a domestic Treble still in sight and another league title secured with emphatic style, it’s shaping up to be a memorable afternoon, both in Paradise and across the city.
Celtic did try to work with Glasgow City Council to get an official fan zone in place for fans to party, but nothing came of those talks.
