Celtic Board ‘Sticking Fingers in Ears’ as Fan Fury Boils Over

Celtic’s summer transfer window is moving into its final month, but many supporters are growing frustrated at what they see as a lack of proper business.

While other clubs have moved quickly to strengthen, the Hoops have been slower to act, and the pressure on the board is building.

A quiet summer has added to the feeling of unease. Big signings were expected but haven’t arrived, and while Brendan Rodgers has spoken about wanting quality over quantity, plenty believe the squad is still short in important positions with the season already underway.

Fans had been hoping for early arrivals to boost Celtic’s chances of winning trophies at home and making progress in Europe. Instead, the weeks have passed with only a few signings and doubts about whether the club will spend enough to take the team up a level.

Journalist Keith Jackson says the board’s handling of the window could widen the gap between those running the club and the supporters in the stands.

He said: (RecordSport), “A hurried late flurry of activity and even a dramatically timed 11th-hour splurge might not be enough to completely placate a support which appears to have its patience tested one summer too many.

“It all feels a bit unwise for the men in charge of plotting Celtic’s affairs to stick their fingers in their ears and dismiss the darkening mood music outside as merely another fuss about nothing.

“Too many of these Celtic supporters have already decided that this regime is not operating in their club’s best interests.

“Right now – unless they suddenly see the colour of Celtic’s money – it doesn’t feel as if the majority of these supporters will be in much of a mood to get the party started.”

The comments echo the growing feeling that talk of improving the squad hasn’t been backed up by real action in the transfer market. Late signings could still shift opinions, but Jackson’s comments point to a belief that the trust between the board and supporters is wearing thin.

Rodgers and his recruitment team now have two crucial weeks to bring in the players the fans want. If they don’t, the squad could be left without the quality needed for what lies ahead, and the criticism aimed at them will only get louder.

What happens next will be important. Celtic have the money to make big signings, but it’s unclear if they’ll spend at the level many think is needed.

With the deadline fast approaching, the focus is now on whether Celtic will make strong moves, or if this summer will be remembered as another missed chance in the eyes of the support.
