Celtic Away Day Structure Explained

CeltsAreHere.com was in attendance at today’s press conference with Callum McGregor ahead of the game against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday evening.

The Hoops are looking to turn a 3-1 first left defeat into qualification for the next round of the Conference league.

It transpired Celtic wouldn’t be training at Bodo’s stadium ahead of the game. UEFA rules state the opposition club must have access to the host’s stadium the night before the game to train after travelling.

Celtic have declined to take up the offer, surprising many because of the synthetic pitch Bodo plays on.

Callum McGregor was asked about not training on the pitch beforehand and the rationale behind it. The Celtic captain told CeltsArehere and other media outlets, it isn’t as uncommon for the Hoops as many would think:

“For Celtic, for years we haven’t trained in away stadiums. We have our preparation and the way we like to do things. We train here, we’ll fly this afternoon and then the preparation’s done.

“People can overthink that you have to go to the stadium, see it to take it in and be prepared. That’s just different beliefs and different people. We seem to have a structure that works reasonably well for us and when we get to the game tomorrow, we have to be ready.

“The conditions, the pitch, we get a feel for that in the warm-up. We prepared well today so we hope for a positive result tomorrow.”

Celtic have their work cutout for them in Norway. A small stadium awaits with an artificial surface and sub zero temperatures.

If they’re going to get anything from the game, they will have to make sure they’re on it from the first minute on Thursday.
