Celtic Attempt to Smash Club’s Transfer Record for Defender Deal – Reports

Celtic are ramping up efforts to recruit ahead of their pre-season tour of Austria and Switzerland next week, but one man who will NOT be on that trip will be Aberdeen’s Scott McKenna with the club reportedly having a whopping £5million bid rejected.

Had Aberdeen accepted the bid, it would have smashed their previous transfer record for a transfer fee received by the club – the current sitting at £1.75m for Eoin Jess to Coventry City back in 1996!

The Dons defender was subject to a Celtic bid back in January of around £3.5m but SunSport are reporting overnight the Scottish Champions have gone in with a £5m bid in order to entice the Pittodrie club.

Unfortunately for Celtic, the player is under contract for another four years and the Dons aren’t in a rush to sell unless they get THEIR valuation for the player which is £10m. Some may roll their eyes at the figure but if that’s what they want then some club will have to pay it for the move to happen.

Celtic should not go near that valuation for the Aberdeen defender. If they have £5m to spend on a player then we can go out and be more creative than going back to failed January targets.
