Has anyone in Romania actually watched Celtic recently and not just playing up to stereotypes of what they think a Scottish football team does?
We reported about how former Ibrox man Doran Goian called Celtic long ball merchants and Cluj shouldn’t fear the Scottish Champions.
We also have a former Cluj player calling Celtic an aggressive side and that’s all we have?
Eh? Am I missing something here? Two traits you would stick onto a club plying their trade in Scotland if you had not bothered to watch them before forming an opinion.
Ionut Rada tells Sunsport:
“Everyone seems to be scared of Celtic, but why? They are a team who use their aggression. That’s their only weapon,
“If Cluj want to mix it up and fight with Celtic, they will lose. But they won’t. Dan Petrescu is too smart for that.
“Celtic remain a big name, but the Scottish League is weak and have no important teams in it anymore.
“These days Celtic are not very good. Yes, they get past a couple of stages in Europe, but that’s it.
“Cluj have a team now that is full of experience. They know what to expect and how to play at this level. I am certain Cluj will qualify.
“Cluj’s success is largely down to Dan Petrescu. He has the complete respect of everyone in the dressing room and everyone in Romanian football. He will already be planning on how to stop Celtic and I think the Scots will be in for a surprise.”
It looks like we won’t be in for a surprise since he’s letting us know that Cluj are an ageing side coming up against a team who like to play football and have been known to score very late goals because of their level of fitness.
Nobody at Celtic will be taking Cluj lightly. The narrative being pushed is Celtic think we’re going to turn them over without having to blink.
Having been knocked out at this stage last season by an average Athen’s side, the bhoys are taking nothing for granted.
