Celtic Are Better – Jonny Hayes Shuts Down Big Mouth Boyd

Former Celtic star and current Aberdeen player Jonny Hayes has shut down Sky Sports big mouth Kris Boyd after he appeared to suggest the Dons always give the Ibrox club a harder game than they do against Celtic.

Boyd’s petulant and paranoid rant came at Celtic Park in the final game before the international break when Celtic blew away Aberdeen with a stunning 6-0 victory. It was the same team who gave his favourite side a bloody nose at Ibrox by beating them back in September to pull the curtain down on Michael Beale’s amusing stint as Rangers boss.

Asked about Boyd’s comments, Hayes raised a smile and made it clear every Aberdeen player wants to win every game.

“It doesn’t matter who we play. Whether it is Motherwell, St Mirren, Rangers, Celtic – we want to win games. It doesn’t make any difference to me personally.” Jonny told RecordSport.

Hayes when one step further and applied logic to the rant, simply putting it, Celtic are a better side: “Put the shoe on the other foot and say Celtic have been better than Rangers for the last five or six years. We prepare the same in terms of wanting to win the game. We don’t try to get a draw or worry about the next game.

“We want to win every game whether that is PAOK away, Rangers at home or St Mirren away. We are realistic enough to know that is not always going to happen but there is no point being involved and wanting to push yourself if you don’t want to win every game.

“Winning is the best part of football and is what makes you successful. It is what we preach to the younger kids as well – it is about winning regardless of the opposition.”

Boyd’s rant got the predictable treatment from the mainstream media who are quick to publish Boyd having a go at others for being paranoid. Rather than call him out on his ramblings they published the quotes and left them hanging.

It shows you the contempt in which Sky Sports holds its Scottish subscribers. Offering up a guy that sounds like a drunk rambling down the pub and legitimising bizarre opinions.

Fair play to Aberdeen who haven’t really taken the bait and just swatted away the ridiculous comments.
