The 23-year-old becomes the latest addition to Celtic’s growing contingent of Japanese players, following in the footsteps of Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate, and Hayato Inamura.

Yamada, who recently earned his first cap for the Japanese national team, arrives at a time when Brendan Rodgers is looking to inject fresh energy into the final third.

The forward scored 32 goals in 121 appearances for Kawasaki and brings pace, physicality, and high pressing ability—qualities that Rodgers has cited as vital for the system he wants to implement.

Brendan Rodgers praised the new arrival, saying: “Shin is a player we have been following closely and he brings real power, athleticism and intensity to our forward options.” He added, “We believe he has the attributes to be a real asset to the squad and we’re excited to work with him.”

Speaking after the move was confirmed, Yamada said: “I can’t wait to begin my time at this amazing club. I know what Celtic means to so many people and I promise I will give everything I have to bring our fans success.”
