‘I can’t ignore it’ – Ange Admits to Losing Temper with Celtic Players

Ange Postecoglou comes across as a stern but fair manager, but there have been times when he’s had to raise the temperature to get his players to fall in line.

Supporters were given a glimpse of Ange’s wrath during the Scottish Cup clash with Raith Rovers in February of last year, where Postecoglou was recorded shouting at his team to stop passing the ball backwards. Beyond that, the 57-year-old admitted he has also reprimanded Celtic players for their actions in private when necessary.

Speaking to The Herald, the Celtic gaffer spoke about nipping certain behaviours in the bid when it comes to his players’ attitudes.

He can be hands-off and let his coaches go to work, but if something isn’t right within the team, he steps in and quickly challenges it with the player and the group.

“I’ve had my moments here. It’s fair to say!” he revealed.

“People might be surprised because they might not have been at the most obvious times for some people. It’s not about getting angry or having a blast, just for the sake of it. It’s about whether I feel something isn’t as it should be.

“Usually it’s around – not so much the game or results – but behaviours. If I see a behaviour that I don’t think fits in, I’ll make sure the player and the group know about it. That’s my role.

“I can’t ignore it or let it go and be nice. That’s what everyone expects of me. If someone displays something that I don’t think fits in, I’ll have no hesitation in telling them it needs to be addressed.”

Some videos over the years have come out of Ange losing his temperature, primarily as boss of the Australian national team. When watching those clips, you almost feel Ange’s intensity.

He puts the work in and demands the very best from his players at all times. If you’re trying to hide or coast in this Celtic side, you’ll be found out very quickly.
