PETER LAWWELL fielded question at today’s AGM for shareholders and was forthcoming with answers for the most part.
One thing which did crop up was John Beaton. A picture of the referee allegedly inside a well known Rangers pub after officiating a Celtic game surfaced online not too long ago, much to the dismay of the Celtic support.
A shareholder asked the question if Celtic and Peter were comfortable with John refereeing Celtic matches.
Here is Peter’s response as per RecordSport’s account.
Lawwell says there was a meeting and he received an explanation.
Insists he can’t share notes from the meeting and that it’s difficult to talk about individual referees or individual decisions.
It’s strange that the information will not be allowed to go public on this one.
Beaton has continued to get Celtic games since those accusations came out and Peter Lawwell must be satisfied with the explanation he got on the matter.
However, if it was harmless and satisfied the chief executive – why can’t he share notes on the issue with shareholders?
Had it been the other way around, we wonder what would’ve happened.
