Cameron Carter-Vickers has reflected on captaining Celtic in the recent Glasgow Derby against Rangers before the international break. With Callum McGregor sidelined due to injury, the responsibility fell to the ever-reliable American defender, who led the team out.

When McGregor was ruled out, there was only ever going to be one choice to take the armband.
Carter-Vickers said: (Celtic TV), “I’ve enjoyed it. I’ve done it a few times last season as well and even the season before that, but it’s a responsibility that I enjoy.
“It’s always good to lead this team out because you know what you’re going to get from them, and that helps.”
The 27-year-old has been a rock at the heart of the Celtic defence since arriving from Tottenham, with his performances often attracting interest from clubs across Europe.

Despite the speculation, Carter-Vickers remains fully committed to the Hoops, and his leadership qualities have continued to shine through. He has undoubtedly learned from McGregor’s example, and while the captaincy is not changing hands any time soon, it’s clear that Carter-Vickers is ready whenever needed.
Carter-Vickers has had a special time at Celtic, joining in 2021 on loan on deadline day when the Hoops were far from the finished article under Ange Postecoglou. The Australian would build the defence around Carter-Vickers that season before the US defender made his move permanent the following summer.
With three league titles, three League Cups, and two Scottish Cups to his name so far, there’s every chance he will add another league and Scottish Cup to that tally come the end of the season. In what can be seen as one of the biggest impacts from a centre-back in Celtic’s history— with the heart of defence a position that rarely gets the recognition it deserves— Carter-Vickers certainly does from the Celtic support.
