Cameron Carter-Vickers has been enjoying playing alongside a number of different central defenders during his time at the club.
All four central defenders in the first team have been used this season due to injuries, with Carter-Vickers being the mainstay at the back.
So much so that the former Spurs defender was awarded with the captaincy after Callum McGregor sustained a knee injury during the Hoops Champions League clash against RB Leipzig.
Last season, the US international struck up a strong partnership with Swede Carl Starfelt with both men being crucial to the success experienced under Ange Postecoglou during his first season at the club.
Due to injury, Starfelt has featured very little for the Hoops this season but will be hoping that the winter break will come at the right time for him having missed out on pre-season in the summer. Carter-Vickers and Starfelt only managed to start one game this season, that being the 4-0 derby victory over Rangers.
Starfelt’s injury has given a chance for Stephen Welsh and Moritz Jenz to get some game time with the latter having featured more frequently.
Postecoglou is set on trying to not rotate his centre back pairing but due to injuries has been forced too. Carter-Vickers has enjoyed playing alongside different players and is fully focused on doing what is best for the team.
“I have enjoyed it. All of the centre-back players are all good, and it’s been good to play alongside a number of people and build relationships on and off the pitch. That is something I have enjoyed,” said Cameron Carter-Vickers as quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times.
“The more you play alongside someone, the more you get used to what they like to do, the positions they might like to take up defensively. From there, then you work off each other. That’s how a good partnership is built.
“I don’t change my game massively, just little tweaks, and that is normal and natural when you are playing alongside someone a few times, and you know what they are going to do.
“I think we are in a good place. Everyone is happy, we are performing fairly well and picking up results, so it is good. I’m feeling good. We’ve been playing a lot of games, and it is difficult for everyone to recover fully, but I feel good.
“It is quite constant [the schedule]. You sort of finish one game, and you are already thinking about the next one. But we have a group that is quite used to that. It was like that for large parts of last season, and we are used to it now.”
Celtic were right to bring the 24-year old in on a permanent deal and he is arguably the best signing Postecoglou has made since his arrival at the club due to how important he is to the side.
