‘Outstanding’ – Celtic Star’s Lennoxtown Admission

Celtic defender Carl Starfelt reckons his side head into the League Cup final full of confidence which will be key as the game transpires.

The Hoops warmed up for the Hampden showdown after a 4-0 demolition of Aberdeen at the weekend and will now turn their attention to the final.

For many players within the squad, the trophy will be that bit extra special as for many it was the first piece of silverware won under the reign of Ange Postecoglou after they defeated Hibs in December 2021.

As always, it’s been one game at a time for the Hoops camp but now Starfelt admits his side will be willing to put it all on the line as they look to win the League Cup for a second season running.

“All finals and all trophies are really big, so it will obviously be big for the club, for the team and the fans to win it. We have a great squad and great competition within the squad and training has been outstanding, so we will go in with a high confidence and a belief in our game,” said Starfelt as quoted by the [Daily Record].

“We will have a good week of preparation and then we will do everything on the day to win it. It is a big game and we are very excited for it. We will rest up and then have a big game to look forward to. Every trophy means a lot to us, so we will always try to win as much as we can. It is a big game and we are looking forward to it a lot.”

It’s likely that Starfelt will start the game alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers but Postecoglou may have some headaches elsewhere on the park but will know that he can use his bench to full effect if need be.

The players appear to enjoy having extra time on the training pitch with the manager at Lennoxtown who will have the squad well prepare for this battle.

Celtic head into the final having hit 31 goals in their last nine goals and look raring to go as they look to make it three out of four trophies under Postecoglou.

“We have really good confidence within the squad because we have been scoring a lot of goals. We have not been conceding many goals.

“We always want to score as many goals as possible and win by as many as possible. At this point, we don’t think too much about the goal difference, but it was a really strong performance [against Aberdeen] which gives us confidence going forward.”
