The Hoops emerged victorious in the recent Premiership clash with a 32 scoreline, but the English midfielder insisted that the result was due to mistakes by his team rather than their opponents earning the points.

Ben Davies and John Souttar both committed errors in the second half that gifted Celtic their second and third goals, as they restored their lead over their rivals.

Cantwell had to clarify his comments and express his respect for Celtic, after receiving some backlash on social media.

When asked about the situation at a press conference ahead of Sunday‘s trip to Aberdeen, he said: [Football Scotland]

“Social media is an interesting place, you don’t say anything you are hiding and you do people will then pull it apart.

“It doesn’t bother me. I’m really enjoying myself here and enjoy the responsibility that is on my shoulder at this club.”

I wish he would have elaborated on what has been pulled apart. He’s made a very silly comment and was rightly derided for it. Nobody would have thought he was hiding by not posting anything. Sometimes it’s better to stay silent than prove your lack of intelligence.

Celtic weren’t at their best during the derby, yet they still managed to get the three points and extend their lead at the top of the table.

The attention is on this weekend’s matches, but next week the build-up to the semi-final begins. Have the Ibrox coaches and staff learned their lesson, or will they continue to do the talking off the pitch?
