Cameron Carter-Vickers’ Humble Response After Screamer Stuns Celtic Park

Cameron Carter-Vickers humbly responded to questions about his stunning 30-yard screamer this afternoon against Kilmarnock at Celtic Park in a 5-1 win.

Carter-Vickers, known for his solidity at the heart of defence, decided to take the opportunity to shoot from distance with the goal opening up before him. What followed was one of the best goals you’ll ever see at Celtic Park, as he unleashed a strike that caught Kieran O’Hara off guard. The ball kept curling its way into the top corner, leaving everyone in awe of the unbelievable.

Carter-Vickers was relaxed in his post-match interview alongside Callum McGregor, revealing that he didn’t even believe he struck the ball as perfectly as he would have liked.

He said: (Sky Sports), “Yes, to be fair, I hit them every now and again in training, and they normally just roll back to the keeper or fly over. Today, it curled a little bit. I thought it took it away from the goalkeeper, but it went in, so we’re all happy.”

When asked ‘Did you know the minute you hit it?’

He said: “No, I didn’t, to be fair. Like I said, I thought I half-shanked it, but that probably helped. It took it away from the keeper, like I said. But yes—good goal.”

Carter-Vickers’ response sums him up in a nutshell; he’s as humble as they come, never letting a goal-of-the-season contender get ahead of himself. That’s why he fits in so well at Celtic—he’s constantly striving to be better, and that mindset has played a huge role in him becoming vice-captain.

He may not have been at his best in recent months, but his performance this afternoon showed the level of defender he is. At 27, he is approaching the best years of his career, and Brendan Rodgers will be desperate to keep him fit and in the starting XI, as that is the only ever question over him—keeping him fit to start week in, week out.
