Calvin Stengs Celtic Transfer Update

Celtic have been linked with Dutch winger Calvin Stengs as the club look to bolster their wide options in the final stretch of the transfer window.

CeltsAreHere exclusively revealed this week that contact had been made with the player’s representatives. However, crucially, no approach had been made to Feyenoord at that stage. That may now change with fresh reports from the Netherlands suggesting the Eredivisie side are prepared to let the 26-year-old move on.

It won’t come cheap. Stengs has a decent record in the Dutch top flight and European football, but Celtic are in a position to spend. There’s cash in the bank, and the club have brought in a decent chunk of change this summer through outgoings.

Brendan Rodgers has made it clear he’s looking to add quality in key areas, and wide midfield remains a concern. Celtic have started the season with only three senior wingers – Daizen Maeda, Yang Hyun-jun and James Forrest. Marco Tilio continues to sit on the fringes, with no matchday appearances so far this season and persistent speculation over a move to Austria.

If Stengs is genuinely available, it could be the kind of deal that changes the dynamic of Celtic’s attacking options. Technically sound, with creativity and an eye for goal, he’s the sort of player who fits Rodgers’ system on paper. The only question is whether the club are waiting to see what European competition they’ll be playing in before making a move, a hesitation that, in truth, doesn’t wash with most supporters. You don’t wait to qualify before building a side capable of qualifying.
