Callum McGregor still seems relaxed despite dip in Celtic’s form

Alarm bells aren’t ringing for Celtic captain Callum McGregor as he offered a laid-back reflection on the team’s recent struggles, particularly following a disappointing defeat to Hearts.

McGregor, who has seen numerous highs during his tenure at Celtic, described the loss as one of the toughest moments in his career with the club.

The recent string of lacklustre performances, including a draw against Motherwell and a narrow victory over St Johnstone that required a significant push from manager Brendan Rodgers, has raised concerns. The defeat to Kilmarnock and the latest loss to Hearts have intensified the scrutiny on the team’s approach and tactics. These are all games Celtic should be winning comfortably, especially after their start to the season, winning in the tough away venues.

Speaking to the Daily Record, McGregor highlighted the unpredictability and challenges of the football season, but he doesn’t seem to be alarmed like many of the support are.

He said, “We start the season well and we probably go seven, eight points clear. Everyone thinks the league’s wrapped up – but look where we’re sitting now.

“So, it tells you that it’s difficult and it’s not easy. And there’s bits in a season where you have to deal with disappointment and you have to deal with it quickly before it starts to fester.

“So I sit here in what’s probably one of the hardest days of my career as a Celtic player to come off and get beat here. That always hurts.

“It’s not happened to me too many times here. So, we will fix it.”
