Celtic captain Callum McGregor responded to recent criticism with a standout performance in Scotland’s 1-1 draw with Switzerland at Euro 2024.

Delivering a critical assist and dominating midfield play, McGregor proved his mettle on the international stage.
In a game where Scotland desperately needed a positive result, McGregor’s precision was on full display. His perfectly timed cut-back found Scott McTominay, who converted the chance to give Scotland the lead.
Beyond the assist, McGregor’s overall game was exemplary. He was noted by Fotmob as the most accurate passer in the match among players who featured for more than 45 minutes. His defensive contributions were equally impressive, he swept up behind the midfield.
The performance came after notable criticism from pundit Graeme Souness, who specifically targeted McGregor by referencing his role as “Celtic captain” in a derogatory tone. McGregor addressed the criticism head-on, admitting he took it personally but would prove those who “had a pop” at him wrong.
Celtic’s social media team took a swipe at the former Rangers man, sorry his name has escaped me, positing on X:
