Celtic captain Callum McGregor has refused to blame any controversial decisions for his side’s heartbreaking Champions League exit, despite claims that Daizen Maeda was fouled in the build-up to Bayern Munich’s 94th-minute equaliser.

Brendan Rodgers’ side put in an inspired performance at the Allianz Arena and were just seconds away from forcing extra time, having taken the lead through Nicolas Kuhn’s goal just after the hour mark.
Celtic had weathered Bayern’s attacks, with Kasper Schmeichel producing several vital saves to keep them ahead.
However, as Celtic clung on, Michael Olise’s cross found Leon Goretzka, whose header was initially saved before Alphonso Davies bundled home the rebound to send the Bundesliga giants through with a 3-2 aggregate win.
Replays showed Maeda appeared to be blocked off in midfield as Celtic tried to clear the danger, but the referee allowed play to continue, and the visitors were ultimately punished.
Despite the controversy, McGregor refused to use it as an excuse, instead choosing to focus on the belief and progress Celtic have shown in Europe this season: [Prime]
“It can be a factor but we don’t really want to use things like that as an excuse. We go right through the game and there are some things that could be different. It’s a real sore one but I think we can be proud of ourselves.”
While Celtic ultimately fell short, their performances against one of Europe’s biggest clubs have proven they belong at this level.
Now, they must shift their focus back to domestic duties, where they will look to secure another league title and return to the Champions League next season.
