You won’t see many players being applauded off the pitch for receiving a red, but that’s what happened to Callum McGregor for Celtic against Motherwell.
The bhoys were winning 2-1 in the 89th minute when a slack pass from Reo Hatate put Motherwell through. Callum had no choice but to bundle over the Motherwell striker and was given his marching orders.
Had Callum not made the foul, Motherwell were clean through and would’ve most likely made it 2-2 on the day.

It was a massive moment and something that wrapped up the three points for Celtic.
The bhoys were wasteful in front of goal today, but they deserved their win. Had Ange Postecoglou’s men conceded late on, it wouldn’t have been a deserved point for Motherwell who were physical, but offered very little else apart from running down the clock at every opportunity.
Teams are looking at ways to cuff Celtic after a flying start to the season. The St Mirren defeat has gave clubs a blueprint, but if Celtic turn up and take their chances, these teams will still find little joy.
Callum McGregor will be out for the next game, but maybe he needs a break anyway.
