Callum McGregor had big boots to fill when Scott Brown passed down the armband in the summer of 2021, but it’s fair to say he’s filled them.

When Ange Postecoglou arrived at Celtic that summer, the Aussie boss had no doubt that the academy graduate would be his captain.
McGregor is preparing to lead his team in what could be his 22nd trophy win with the club.
His track record at Hampden, where he has never lost a cup final, is simply incredible.
McGregor’s leadership style is particularly highlighted by his preparation for the pre-match huddle—a ritual that is as much a part of Celtic’s identity as the club’s famous green and white hoops.
It’s within this circle just before kickoff that McGregor’s words galvanise his teammates for the match ahead.
He said [RecordSport]: “I’m always thinking about what to say, generally when I’m driving about during the week – stuff just comes into my head! Every situation is different, and you just try to find the right words for the moment that you are in. I try to do it as naturally as I can, but I’m always thinking. That’s just the way I’m programmed.”
As Celtic prepares to face Rangers, the significance of McGregor’s leadership cannot be overstated. In recent encounters, he’s run the show, and more of that on Saturday would certainly help his teammates push on for the double.
