Speaking from Germany where he is currently competing in the Euros with Scotland, McGregor detailed the challenging period following an injury scare that initially seemed to put his participation in doubt.

The injury occurred just as McGregor was gearing up for crucial fixtures with both club and country. He missed Scotland’s friendly matches in March, as well as significant club games. However, his return to the pitch in April was timely, allowing him to lead Celtic to a victorious Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup double.

Discussing the severity of the injury, McGregor told BBC Sport, “The injury one was bad timing, difficult injury to manage as well.

“When we got the scan, it was bad news, it was pretty much season over but with determination and everything that there was still to play for and obviously having an eye on [Euro 2024] as well, sometimes the mind can do crazy things for you and will you back to a point when you can get yourself back fit.

“I’m willing to put myself through anything for the team to get success and that’s just the way that I am. I’m so glad that it turned out the way it did. In football, fortune favours the brave as well a little bit.”

This resilience not only underscored McGregor’s pivotal role at Celtic but also his importance to the national team as they face competition on the European stage. He was a key player for Scotland in the last Euros, scoring their only goal of the tournament.
