Callum McGregor Challenges Team-mate to Complete Comeback

Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor has sent a message to fellow team-mate, Leigh Griffiths urging him to get ‘fit and firing’ in time for Scotland’s European Championship play-off game, next month.

As reported by the Daily Record, Griffiths made his return to the Celtic side last Sunday against St Johnstone, scoring a crucial goal in the game late on. Now, McGregor has told the 30-year old to regain his spot in the Scotland National team.

“It’s down to him to get himself playing games again.

“We know from what happened in Perth that if he gets a chance he’s going to score. That’s the kind of quality Leigh has.

“The national team would benefit from that, so it’s a challenge for him. You could throw him into the Serbia game and he wouldn’t be fazed. No matter the level, if he gets that one chance he’ll score.

“We have a lot of good strikers in the Scotland squad, though, so the challenge is to get fit. If he does that, I don’t think anybody would doubt his quality.”

As McGregor says, there is no doubting that Griffiths has quality and ability as a player, he has shown that for years now. At times though, he has also struggled with his own personal problems, both in and out with football.

Having a fit, fully firing Griffiths will be a huge plus for this squad and his team-mates know that. You can see the faith the likes of McGregor have in him with his comments.

Let’s hope he can get himself back to form, similar to what we saw at the beginning of the year. If so it will definitely help both Celtic and Scotland in a positive manner.
