Callum McGregor Backs Under Fire Celtic Star for New Deal

CALLUM MCGREGOR has told all the people who believe Scott Brown is finished are wide of the mark.

The Celtic midfielder and vice captain believes the club are lucky to have Brown at the club and if we sign him to a new deal it would be a great thing for the teams

McGregor believes many underestimate the role Scott plays in the side and how intelligent a footballer he is.

Brown has started the last couple of games for Celtic after being out in the cold for quite some time. The players cameo at Livingston back in January saw him get a red for acting in a ridiculous manner.

Brown has been the lynchpin for Celtic over the years but we can’t go on forever. The biggest compliment I can give the Celtic captain is the club has never been close to replacing him.

Ismaila Soro shows promise but a Scott Brown in his prime under Brendan Rodgers was a joy t behold.

His performances have dipped over the last 18 months. People inevitably put that down to age but there could be more factors at play.

Callum believes as long as Scott wants to be here, the club should make it happen.

“Broony has a huge impact and write him off at your peril, because he’s going to come back. He’s done it a few times now and against Kilmarnock last week, I thought he was the best player on the pitch. He was absolutely outstanding” McGregor told SunSport.

“The thing with Scott is that people underestimate how good a footballer he is and how good his football brain is.

“He plays in that position so well. He can take it, turn and play forward.

“He knows the position so well defensively and he gives us a real base.

“Then there’s all the other leadership qualities that he has, and you can see it rubbing off on the team.

“Over the past 13 years he’s been right up there along with the best Celtic players that there’s been, and there’s a reason for that, it’s because he’s so good.

“I think he’s always going to have value to the club. Obviously, I don’t want to speak about what he should do or what he is going to do, that’s up to Scott.

“But I just always think he’s going to have value at this club, he’s such a big personality and such a big leader.

“If we are lucky enough to get him for another year then that would be a brilliant decision, but if he decides something else then you have to respect that as well.

“As long as he wants to be at Celtic, we’re lucky to have him.”

Scott’s current deal is up in the summer and there’s been no talk of a new deal to this point. It will all depend on who the manager is next term.
