Callum McGregor Responds to Celtic’s Tynecastle Boost

Celtic captain Callum McGregor has insisted that Celtic’s full focus is on the next match Scottish Premiership match against Aberdeen.

It will be the final game which Ange Postecoglou’s side play before their Hampden showdown the following week against Rangers in the final of the Viaplay Cup.

Both Glasgow sides have already met each other twice this season and it has been the league leaders who have had the better points record.

Celtic hammered Rangers 4-0 in early September and managed to escape Ibrox with a point after an 88th minute strike from top goalscorer Kyogo Furuhashi.

The match against the Dons will be a completely different challenge as they recently parted ways with boss Jim Goodwin after an poor run of form and being knocked out the Scottish Cup by West of Scotland league side Darvel.

Former Celtic midfielder Barry Robson will take charge of Aberdeen at the weekend and the match will be an opportunity for the Celtic squad to prove to the manager why they should start the League Cup final the following week.

Captain Callum McGregor says admits the team are fully focused on their next league match first and that there won’t be many changes to the side which progressed to the quarter final stage of the Scottish Cup.

“There’s not too many changes in terms of personnel for Aberdeen so, of course, they might have a slightly different idea but for us I think it’s just important that we approach the game the way we do every other game,” said McGregor as quoted by the [Daily Record].

“Training’s been good this week, we’re looking forward to another strong challenge but I believe if we turn up and do a lot of good things then we should come away with three points.”

Celtic also learned their fate this week in the last eight of the Scottish Cup and the players are delighted to hear that there may be more Hoops fans at the game.

In recent times, the allocation at Tynecastle has been cut significantly to around 1,300 but that could be boosted by the return of the full Roseburn Stand behind the goal.

“It’s important that we try and use that along with the game principles that we always do.

“We always try to approach the game the same way, be dominant, have the ball, impose ourselves in the game. It will be great to have more supporters in there than normal and they always back us to the hilt anyway. We’re looking forward to it.

“It will be a tough game. It’s always difficult going there, especially in a cup tie, a one-off game, but we’ll approach it like we do every other cup tie. We have to be right on the day, you have to do a lot of good things. It’s a difficult venue but hopefully we have enough to overcome it.”
