Bundesliga Giants Join Race for Celtic Transfer Target

Celtic are facing stiff competition in their pursuit of Motherwell midfielder Lennon Miller, with Bundesliga heavyweights Borussia Dortmund among a growing list of clubs reportedly interested in the 18-year-old midfielder.

Miller, long admired by Celtic, has attracted widespread attention for his displays in the middle of the park for Motherwell. Already touted as one of Scotland’s top young talents, he received a senior Scotland call-up for the recent Nations League Play-off against Greece, although he didn’t feature.

Celtic were heavily linked with a move in January, with reports suggesting the club had been eyeing a deadline day swoop. That never materialised, but interest from Parkhead hasn’t faded. However, they are not alone in tracking the teenager. German outfits Wolfsburg, Werder Bremen, and Eintracht Frankfurt have joined Dortmund in showing serious interest, while Italian side Udinese reportedly saw a £2.5m bid rejected by Motherwell during the winter window. A summer bidding war could now be on the cards, with Celtic keen to strengthen their midfield with an eye on succession planning and European ambitions. Miller, who has looked mature beyond his years in the Premiership, fits the club’s recruitment model: young, Scottish, and with high resale value.

Whether Celtic can outmuscle the financial clout and lure of top-five European leagues remains to be seen. But if they are to land the midfielder, they will likely need to move decisively and offer a clear development pathway—potentially including guaranteed first-team football—to beat off competition from the continent.
