Brendan Rodgers Wants Celtic to Show ‘Humility and Class’ With Gers Tribute

SKY SPORTS have asked everyone and their grandmother if Celtic should give the new champion’s guard of honour at Celtic Park.

This, without ever mentioning that not only did Celtic never get a guard of honour from our Glasgow rivals but they went out their way to cut our allocation for their home games because we were so dominant.

It beggars belief after watching this Ibrox club show no respect to a record-breaking Celtic team over the past four years since they entered this league, we should now show them respect.

Rodgers still thinks it’s the right thing to do and by saying Celtic should show humility and class, he has to be inferring there was zero from the Ibrox club during his time as Hoops boss.

“You should show humility and class, be a sporting team,” he told SKY SPORTS.

“I can never forget when I was at Chelsea as a young coach and in that first season with Jose [Mourinho] they won the title.

“That must have been really, really difficult but it showed you the class of Sir Alex [Ferguson] and showed you the humility of him [to get his Manchester United side to form guard of honour].

“It was sporting but can also provide you with great motivation going forward. It’s something that for me – despite the rivalry, despite how difficult it is – you should do and then use it as motivation.”

Brendan Rodgers is detached from Glasgow now but he should know better than to call for any sort of guard of honour. Sky Sports will continue this coverage all week and they will do a blow by blow analysis of Celtic players body language as they enter the field and highlight if it does or doesn’t go ahead. It’s the sort of petty nonsense we’ve come to expect from a broadcaster who thinks Kris Boyd is a suitable TV pundit.
