Brendan Rodgers is on the brink of a sensational return to Celtic.

Nicholson and McKay had flown to Spain to meet Brendan Rodgers, and after successful talks, believe that a deal for the Invincible treble manager is complete barring any late U-turns.

Rodgers, who was sacked by Leicester City in April, had initially planned to take an extended break from football.

However, positive talks with Celtic’s main shareholder Dermot Desmond and other board members have led to an almost certain second tenure for Rodgers at the Scottish champions.

The composition of Rodgers’ backroom team is yet to be determined. John Kennedy, Postecoglou’s assistant at Celtic, is also being courted by Tottenham. However, Rodgers and Kennedy have previously had a strong working relationship, and it is highly possible that Rodgers will want to retain Kennedy.

Chris Davies, Rodgers’ assistant during his first tenure at Celtic, has been linked with the managerial position at Swansea City.

Rodgers is returning to a Celtic side that has already qualified for the Champions League after securing back-to-back titles under Postecoglou.

One of Rodgers’ primary targets will be to make progress in European competition, an area where Celtic has struggled in recent years.

The official announcement of Rodgers’ return to Celtic is expected to be made before the end of this week.
