Brendan Rodgers Talks Up Celtic Youngster He’s “Really pleased for”

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was delighted to see Dane Murray play on Friday night against Ayr United.

The centre-half has endured several injury issues throughout his young career but returned to the fold at Somerset Park.

Murray played the second half of the Hoops’ 1-1 draw with Scott Brown’s side, and Rodgers talked him up post-match.

“(It was) great to see Dane Murray back”, he said (Celtic FC on YouTube).

“This is a young guy who I seen when he was first in the team at 16, 17 a number of years back.

“He’s had a horrendous time with injury but he’s come back. He’s physically a great size, he moves well, and I’m really pleased for him that he’s got minutes on the pitch for Celtic.”

Now 21 years of age, Murray, despite having surgery, has developed a lot since he made his Celtic debut three years ago.

The Scotland youth international was thrown into key Champions League qualifiers under Ange Postecoglou and did himself proud.

Now, he will look to break through under Rodgers. Given the manager’s comments, he is highly rated.

Having recently signed a new one-year contract extension with the champions which runs until 2025, though, it feels like a big year for Murray and his Celtic future.

Whether he heads out on loan or stays with the first team, the defender is fighting for his future at the club he has been with since the age of six.
