Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has come to the defence of his goalkeeper, Joe Hart, amidst growing speculation about the player’s future at the club.

With Hart’s contract set to expire in a year and rumours of Celtic eyeing another goalkeeper, Rodgers’ support for the veteran shot-stopper is timely.
Joe Hart, once a mainstay in the English national team, has faced criticism in recent times for a series of errors in goal. Despite a commendable performance against Aberdeen last weekend, many believe that age might be catching up with the 36-year-old, leading to mistakes on the pitch.
Rodgers was quick to highlight Hart’s contributions to Celtic since his arrival. “Joe came in here a few years ago, and everyone wondered how it would work out. He has done fantastic,” Rodgers stated. [Glasgow Times]
The Celtic boss further emphasised the adaptation period required for players under his management style. “The players are still adapting to what I am asking them to do, and that will take time,” he added.
Rodgers also praised Hart’s character and dedication, saying, “There is absolutely no question about his personality. He is a great guy, very humble. At 36, to see his hunger and desire every day, it’s first class.”
The Celtic manager, who is returning for his second stint in charge of the Hoops added: “I have a really good relationship with him, and if there was ever any change to that, he would be the first one I would speak to. The type of keeper he is, is the type of keeper he’s virtually always been. He’s a brilliant shot-stopper, a big presence in the goal, a great communicator, really good in the changing room.”
Rodgers acknowledged the areas Hart has been working on to improve, particularly his footwork and passing accuracy. “He can play the simple passes; it doesn’t need to be complex,” Rodgers commented, highlighting Hart’s commitment to evolving his game even at this stage of his career.
While Rodgers’ words are a strong endorsement of Hart’s place in the team, the future remains uncertain. With Hart’s contract nearing its end and the club reportedly scouting other goalkeepers, the coming months will be crucial for both the player and the club.
