Brendan Rodgers Shuts Down Celtic Complacency Suggestions

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers dismissed any suggestions about complacency after his side’s 2-0 win over Dundee United last night.

It was a routine victory for the Bhoys, with goals coming from Japanese duo Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate.

The winger opened the scoring in the first half, lashing home after United goalkeeper Jack Walton palmed away Luke McCowan’s curling effort.

Jim Goodwin’s men then came into the game in the second 45, and some nerves slowly crept in around Celtic Park, although substitute Hatate made sure of the points with seven minutes to go, finishing from close range after a smart Maeda cut back.

It was yet another three points for the Bhoys, who moved 16 clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership until at least this evening.

Although they have played over 20 league games this season and maintain a healthy lead at the league’s summit, manager Rodgers isn’t allowing any complacency to creep into his side’s play: “There’s still such a way to go,” he said (The Celtic Way).

“It’s 21 games, so you still get 17 games to go. I don’t think there’s ever complacency.

“Players, I think, we always guard against that contentment. This is a club that’s not complacent. It’s a club that we strive to be the best that we can possibly be, to keep improving and that’s the culture of how we work.

“So, yes, you can win and win and win. I think it keeps that flow going and that mentality. The players are in a good flow at the moment.”

Next up for the champions is a trip to Dingwall to face Ross County this Saturday at lunchtime.

Heading up to the Highlands amid sub-zero conditions won’t be easy, and Rodgers’ main priority will be heading back down the A9 with another three points in the bag.

The fixtures just keep on coming for the Celts, who have nine games alone in January.
