Celtic’s board, comprised of Peter Lawwell, Dermot Desmond, and Michael Nicholson, announced Rodgers’ appointment and expressed their commitment to backing their manager.
Rodgers, 50, has reportedly been allocated £30 million for transfers to realise his ambitions in Scotland and in Europe, with it believed that the manager is keen to make strides in Europe with Celtic, after making the semi-finals of the Conference League, to being knocked out by the winners, Roma in 2022.
Rodgers, who initially departed from Celtic for Leicester City in February 2019, had been unattached since his dismissal in April. However, his agreement to take on the reins at Celtic once again was contingent on receiving assurances from major shareholder Dermot Desmond regarding significant resources for high-quality reinforcements in specific positions.
Rodgers has expressed his excitement about the calibre of the team he has inherited from the Treble-winning manager, Ange Postecoglou, who recently moved to Tottenham. Nevertheless, Rodgers, who led Celtic to an unbeaten run in 2017, is eager to make a substantial impact in the Champions League.
Furthermore, Rodgers is expected to receive investment for improvements at the Lennoxtown training headquarters.
Celtic are cash healthy at the moment, with record-breaking figures released and many sellable assets in the team. It’s certainly shaping up for an exciting future at the club.
