Speaking after the official confirmation of Tierney’s return and five-year deal, the Celtic manager praised both the player’s quality and his deep-rooted connection with the club.

Rodgers said on the club’s official site: “We are delighted to welcome Kieran back to Celtic. He is such a talented, high-quality player and he will be a massive addition to our squad.

“Kieran has always had Celtic in his blood and he is excited to be coming back to the place he loves.

“He is someone who has given so much to Celtic already and I know he is so motivated and hungry to help the club bring more and more success to our fans.

“We are so pleased to bring such an elite player back to the club and I look forward to working with him again and the rest of the squad, as we face the many challenges ahead at home and in Europe.”

Tierney, who will wear the iconic number 63 shirt once again, made over 170 appearances for the Hoops before his move to Arsenal in 2019. His return has been long rumoured and heavily anticipated by the supporters, and Rodgers is clearly just as thrilled to have the full-back back in the fold.

He was initially confirmed in the intirim reports a few months ago, but the club have made it official on social media on Tuesday.

Tierney’s return not only fills a key position in the squad but also brings back a player who knows exactly what it means to wear the badge – a crucial blend of ability and identity as Celtic gear up for another big season.

Celtic will be looking to continue progressing in the Champions League, and brining in players, in the peak of their careers, with the quality of KT is only going to help Rodgers’ push.
