Brendan Rodgers Reacts to Fans Chanting for Former Players at Parkhead

Celtic fans had a light-hearted response to Brendan Rodgers’ recent comments on chanting for former players, as they turned Parkhead into a nostalgic karaoke session during the Hoops’ victory over Dundee United.

The manager, however, took the patter in his stride, providing a tongue-in-cheek response after the game.

Rodgers had previously expressed frustration over chants for Kieran Tierney during last weekend’s match, describing them as “disrespectful” to current left-back Greg Taylor. The comments sparked debate among the fans, with some taking it upon themselves to respond humorously.

Throughout the match, sections of the crowd serenaded the stadium with chants for former Celtic stars, dusting off classics for the likes of Henrik Larsson, Scott Sinclair, Stuart Armstrong, Moussa Dembele, Jota and Odsonne Edouard.

Rodgers laughed off the singing session, saying: [Clyde SSB]

“The kit man, he was the only one that missed out, I think, tonight.

“But, yes, it’s all part of the dance here, isn’t it? My job is to put the best team on the pitch and win consistently, and everyone can smile.”

Rodgers’ reaction suggests he’s eager to move past the narrative and maintain focus on results. His response shows he is willing to embrace the passion and humour of the Celtic support while keeping the team’s ambitions front and centre.

The manager’s light-hearted approach after the game likely goes a long way in maintaining a positive relationship with the fans, even as he continues to assert the need for focus and respect within the squad.

As Rodgers works to guide Celtic to yet another title, the focus will remain on performances on the pitch rather than the chants from the stands. With speculation over Kieran Tierney’s potential return continuing to swirl, the attention will undoubtedly remain divided.
