Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has given his verdict on the team’s 1-1 draw with Wolves, describing the match as a “perfect workout” for his side.

Despite the game ending in a draw, Rodgers expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, highlighting the quality of their play and the valuable experience gained from facing a strong opponent.
“The workout was perfect for us. We had some spells of fantastic football, defensively, against a good side with some good players, you have to defend. It was the type of game that we needed,” Rodgers said in his post-match comments live on ViaPlay.
The match, which saw Celtic take an early lead before Wolves equalised, provided a stern test for Rodgers’ side. The manager acknowledged that the rhythm of the game was disrupted by the numerous substitutions made during the match, leading to a loss of fluency in Celtic’s play.
“Of course it was a little bit broken when you’re making changes, so we lost the fluency and the rhythm of the game. In that stage in the second half, we gave the ball away too much. So we have to be better in that aspect,” Rodgers admitted.
Despite these challenges, Rodgers remained positive about the overall performance of his team. He emphasised the value of the match as a learning experience and a chance to test his side against a quality opponent.
“Overall, I’m really pleased. It was a great exercise for us against a good side,” Rodgers concluded.
The match against Wolves served as a crucial part of Celtic’s pre-season preparations, offering the team a valuable opportunity to hone their skills and strategies ahead of the upcoming season. Rodgers’ comments reflect his commitment to continuous improvement and his belief in the potential of his team.
