Brendan Rodgers Provides Key Celtic Duo Injury Update

Brendan Rodgers has provided an update on Alistair Johnston and Nicolas Kühn after both players missed Celtic’s 1-1 draw with Rangers at Ibrox this afternoon.

The Canadian right-back was absent due to a persistent issue, but Rodgers confirmed the club is using the current window to get him treatment ahead of the Scottish Cup final later this month.

Johnston has been a regular in Celtic’s backline this season, and Rodgers is hopeful the treatment will have him ready for Hampden.

He said: (Sky Sports), “Our priority, of course, is all the games, but we have a Scottish Cup final.

“So that is the big priority—to get the players ready for that. So there is a little window now in order for him to get some treatment on that.

“He gets an injection which clears up a little bit of the issue that he has.”

As for Nicolas Kühn, who missed today’s game through a knee injury, Rodgers offered a more positive and optimistic update on the winger’s condition.

He said: “Hopefully next week he’ll be okay.

“He had a bash on his knee when he went off at Dundee United. He has not trained so much all week. He was out with the medical team and the rehab team. We gave him a go yesterday, but he had a bruise on his knee, which the scan showed up.

“So we are hopeful that by next weekend he should be fine.”

With just under three weeks to go before Celtic meet Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final, the hope is that both players will return to full fitness in time for the Hampden showdown.

Both were a huge miss against Rangers this afternoon—despite Celtic earning a draw, their absence was felt, particularly on the right-hand side, where they could have made the attack even more dangerous and added another dimension to Celtic’s attack.
