SunSport reports that a recent round of positive talks has left the 50-year-old manager ready to accept the offer to succeed Ange Postecoglou.

Rodgers, who hosted Celtic’s chief executive Michael Nicholson at his Spanish holiday home for face-to-face negotiations, now has the opportunity to return to the club he left in February 2019 for Premier League side Leicester City. His departure at the time sparked outrage among Celtic supporters.

However, majority shareholder Dermot Desmond and chairman Peter Lawwell are increasingly confident that Rodgers, who won seven trophies during his first stint at Celtic, including back-to-back Trebles and an Invincible campaign, will accept the offer to take over the reins again.

Rodgers will inherit a squad packed with top talent from Postecoglou, who recently led the team to a world record eighth domestic clean sweep with the Scottish Cup final triumph over Caley Thistle.

The former Liverpool manager, who was planning to take an extended break from football following his sacking at Leicester in April, suddenly emerged as a serious candidate for the Celtic job last week. This led to Nicholson flying out to Spain for negotiations.

Rodgers, who was previously the highest-earning boss in Celtic’s history on £2.2 million a year, has been promised another lucrative contract, significant bonuses, and substantial transfer resources to ensure Celtic remains at the top of Scottish football amid Michael Beale’s significant rebuild at Rangers.
