Brendan Rodgers Outlines ‘The only thing that was missing’ from Celtic’s Display vs Dundee Utd

Brendan Rodgers revealed the only thing that he believes was missing from Celtic’s 0-0 draw against Dundee United at Tannadice earlier today.

With Celtic dropping two points in the draw, the Irishman highlighted one aspect of the game where he feels the Hoops could improve next time out against Motherwell at Celtic Park.

He said: (Clyde 1 Superscoreboard), “I thought we obviously had enough of the ball. I think the only thing that was missing was that clinical edge in the final third of the pitch.

“We arrived in areas that we wanted to often enough, but in the first half, we never hit the target anywhere near enough. We never made the keeper work.”

Celtic did dominate possession, even pushing up the pitch well into the Dundee United half, with Stephen Welsh and Liam Scales often pushing past the halfway line.

However, for all the ball in dangerous areas, the ability to play the killer pass or produce a moment of individual brilliance was severely lacking.

Kyogo Furuhashi was wasteful up front, Daizen Maeda wasn’t quite at his Glasgow derby-winning best, and Yang Hyun-jun was often anonymous, taking the ball for seconds only to give it back to the closest teammate.

The difference between Nicolas Kuhn and Yang was clear to see, with the gulf in quality between the two a damning indictment.

With Celtic likely to sign a winger in January, it is one area of the team that could use greater depth.
